In an interview with Capital News Service, Geetha Ramani, professor of human development, discussed the role of recess in supporting student success.

“[Recess is] a really important time,” she said. “You can have sort of structured or guided play and have it be really rewarding and meaningful to the kids and still be an opportunity for it to be playful.”

Ramani also emphasized that recess not only helps children refocus and get ready to learn but may also help address the rising behavioral challenges in elementary schools.
