The College of Education presented Support Program for Advancing Research and Collaboration (SPARC) Awards to the following five doctoral candidates to support their dissertation research: Marisha Addison (CHSE) for 鈥淩eframing the Journey to School as an Educational Equity Issue Through a Multi-Level Mixed Method Inquiry鈥; Amber Chevaughn Johnson (TLPL) for 鈥淲aterbearers Against the Dark: Black Women of the South Carolina Sea Island and the Reconstruction of Black Education鈥; Joyce Koo (TLPL) for 鈥淓xploring Belonging: The Campus Experiences of International Chinese Undergraduate Women in STEM鈥; Eden Rivera (CHSE) for 鈥淚nclusive Education in International Development: How USAID Promotes Inclusive Education for Learners with Disabilities Domestically and Abroad鈥; and Elizabeth Wasden (CHSE) for 鈥淎n Examination of How the College Experience Impacts the Perceptions of Students with Type 1 Diabetes.鈥
The 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频 Graduate School presented awards to 13 College of Education students. Pascal Andebo (CHSE), Langan Courtney (CHSE) and Sandra Gutierrez (TLPL) were named Summer Research Fellows. Ninie Asad (HDQM), Jenna Marie Roberson (TLPL) and Sofie Uribe (HDQM) received President鈥檚 Fellowships. Stephanie Cerrato (CHSE), Youngjin Han (HDQM), Elise Kaufman (HDQM) and Ami Patel (CHSE) received Ann G. Wylie Dissertation Fellowships. Milen Matthews (TLPL) was honored with the David and Winifred 鈥淲inkle鈥 Fulk Fellowship Award. Tifanee McCaskill (TLPL) was a Three-Minute Thesis Competition Winner. Rolonda Payne (TLPL) was honored with the Dr. James W. Longest Memorial Award for Social Science Research. Jenna Marie Roberson (TLPL) received the Ronald E. McNair Graduate Fellowship.
Tara Brown, associate professor (TLPL), and Rachel Romeo, assistant professor (HDQM), were selected as recipients of the 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频 Graduate Faculty Mentor of the Year Award.
Anisha Campbell, associate director of Terrapin Teachers (TLPL), received the 2024-25 University System of Maryland Board of Regents Staff Award in the category of Exceptional Contribution. These awards represent the highest honor bestowed by the Board of Regents for achievements of exempt and nonexempt staff employees from institutions within the University System of Maryland.
Susan De La Paz, professor emerita of special education (CHSE), was selected to participate in the Fulbright Specialist Program. De La Paz will lead faculty and administrators at the Central Philippines University to create more inclusive spaces for university students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds and for students with disabilities.
Drew S. Fagan, clinical professor (TLPL), is the recipient of the 2026 American Association for Applied Linguistics Distinguished Public Service Award. This award is given to individuals outside of the field of applied linguistics whose work raises public awareness of important social issues connected to language and makes exceptional contributions to promotion of multilingualism, linguistic social and justice, and language-related human rights.
Amber Chevaughn Johnson (TLPL) was selected as a recipient of the 2025 National Academy of Education (NAEd)/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship. The fellowship provides a total of $27,500 in funding, along with professional development, to 35 dissertation fellows selected from a pool of more than 400 applicants.
Chris Jones M.Ed. 鈥25 (TLPL) received the Maryland Association of Teacher Educators Distinguished Teacher Candidate Award.
Loren Jones, associate clinical professor (TLPL), and Alison Jovanovic 鈥98, principal faculty specialist (TLPL), were recognized with 2025 Provost's Excellence Awards for Professional Track Faculty at the 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频 Faculty and Staff Convocation. Jones was honored for Excellence in Research, and Jovanovic was recognized for Excellence in Service. These awards honor consistently excellent contributions from full-time faculty who have served for at least five years and do not have nor are eligible for tenure.
Loren Jones, associate clinical professor (TLPL), and Kelly S. Mix, associate dean for research, innovation and partnerships and professor (HDQM), received Faculty-Student Research Awards from the 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频 Graduate School.
Melanie Killen, Distinguished University Professor (HDQM), was honored as a finalist in the social innovation category for 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频鈥檚 Invention of the Year Award for Developing Inclusive Youth (DIY). DIY is a classroom program for upper elementary school students that focuses on inclusivity and bias reduction.
Dennis Kivilighan, professor (CHSE), was chosen as the recipient of the Leona Tyler Award for Lifetime Achievement in Counseling Psychology, presented by the Society of Counseling Psychology (American Psychological Association Division 17). One of the highest honors in the field, the award recognizes a lifetime of significant and sustained contributions representing unusual breadth and depth to the field of counseling psychology.
Jioni Lewis, associate professor (CHSE), received the Advocate of the Year Award from the Society of Counseling Psychology (APA Division 17), Section on the Advancement of Feminist Psychology. This award is given to an individual who has provided outstanding service, research and/or practice to contributions for the advancement of women, gender and feminist psychology. Lewis will also serve as chair of the APA Committee on Women in Psychology and as the APA Council Representative for the Society of Counseling Psychology (APA Division 17).
Taylor Mason 鈥25 (TLPL) received a 2025 Library Award for Undergraduate Research from 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频 Libraries for 鈥淔 is for Feminism: Understanding 1970s Social Conflict through Sesame Street.鈥
Ebenezer Kobina Mensah, a higher education, student affairs and international education policy Ph.D. student (CHSE), accepted the $10,000 top prize in the Founders Track of 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频鈥檚 Do Good Challenge, as founder of the Black Stars Wellness Initiative. The initiative teaches first aid, CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) skills across Ghana.
Jade Miles 鈥25, M.Ed. 鈥26 (TLPL), received a National Council of Teachers of Mathematics 6-12 Pre-Service Teacher Coursework Scholarship.
Alyssa Orlando 鈥25 (CHSE) and Bryant Rivera Cortez 鈥25 (TLPL) were recognized as a Wilson H. Elkins Award Finalists by the Maryland Medallion Society. Orlando was also named the 2025 Col. J. Logan Schutz ODK Leader of the Year.
Megan Madigan Peercy, special assistant to the provost for strategic initiatives and professor (TLPL), was named a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher at the 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频 Faculty and Staff Convocation. The award recognizes faculty who combine outstanding scholarship with teaching excellence. Each scholar will present a lecture during the academic year.
Brandon Rodriguez Torrento M.A. 鈥25 (CHSE) was recognized as a 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频 Outstanding Graduate Student Distinguished Service 2024-25 Graduate Finalist.
Richard Shin, associate professor (CHSE), was selected as one of Loyola University Chicago School of Education鈥檚 2025 Distinguished Alumni. This award honors alumni who are not only advancing educational practices but also driving meaningful change in addressing social inequalities locally, nationally and globally.
Monica Simonsen, director of teacher education (Student Services), was recognized as a RISE Grant Rising Star by 沈芯语老师家访麻花视频鈥檚 Division of Academic Affairs.
Cixin Wang, professor (CHSE), received the Tom Oakland Mid-Career Scholarship Award from the American Psychological Association Division 16 (School Psychology). The award is given to a mid-career school psychologist (7 to 20 years post-graduation) who throughout their career has demonstrated exceptional scholarly activity that merit special recognition.
